Boudin at the Wharf: Museum & Bakery Tour with samples! Before Fisherman’s Wharf was even on the map, the Boudin French Bakery was making bread for San Franciscans. Through a compelling array of historic photos, artifacts, and interactive exhibits, you will discover the history of Boudin, the events and personalities surrounding its origins, and the art and science behind their original San Francisco Sourdough. When Boudin’s first demonstration bakery opened on Fisherman’s Wharf more than 30 years ago, visitors lined up to watch the bakers at work, then bought sourdough loaves hot out of the oven. Now Boudin Bakery at the Wharf includes a 30-foot observation window along Jefferson Street, and a glass-walled catwalk suspended directly over the action. Watch as the flour is pumped at high velocity from the on-site silo directly into the mixer, and as the dough is tossed from the mezzanine to the ground floor, where it is hand-finished and baked into nearly 10,000 loaves of fresh sourdough, French, and European hearth breads every day. Daily self-guided tours.
