In the 1880s, narrow-gauge steam locomotives were used to haul giant redwood logs out of the mountains. Roaring Camp's steam engines date from 1890 and are among the oldest and most authentically preserved narrow-gauge steam engines providing regularly scheduled passenger service in America. Travel over trestles, through towering redwood groves and up a winding narrow-gauge grade to the summit of Bear Mountain as conductors narrate the history of Roaring Camp, the railroad and the forest! One hour round trip. Steam Trains narrow-gauge excursions to Bear Mountain and return (1.15 hours round trip)
Be the captain of your own ship and rent a kayak to explore on your own. Kayak Connection has single, double and even triple sit-on-top kayaks to get you out onto the water. Paddling skills are briefly covered and all necessary equipment is provided. Beginners welcome! Rentals are available every day for up to 4 hours.
A limited number of tours are offered each afternoon, and space is limited. Tours are filled on a first come, first serve basis. Sign-up begins one hour before tour time. Tours depart 1 PM, 2 PM, and 3 PM (last tour ends at 4 PM). Tour included with admission.
